Rewriting: How to Organize the Chaos

There’s something quietly terrifying about opening a screenplay file after someone has given you notes on it. Even if the feedback is positive, your stomach still drops. It’s as if your story, once clean, contained, and yours, has now been exploded across a dozen conflicting suggestions. Add a scene here. Cut that subplot. Change the genre. Rewrite the ending.

This is where most writers freeze. Not because they aren’t willing to rewrite, but because they don’t know where to begin.

The Story Farm is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

So let’s change that. For my paid subscribers, read on you fabulous people. For all of you, I am hosting a rewriting class on July 12 that includes a full read and 1-on-1 call to review my detailed and in depth notes. It will be held on Zoom from 11:00am CT to 3:30pm CT. There will be a lot of writing exercises accompanying lectures, but also time to discuss and workshop various elements of your project if needed.

All for only $497. Email me at max@thestoryfarm.org - it’s the only way to sign up for the class. Just email me and tell me you’re interested and ready.

OK. Let’s get into today’s Substack lesson.
