I tell my Story Farm writers that they need to be staying up to date and aware of what’s going on around the industry - from the basics of box office news, to insider information about industry trends and business deals. And since I read the news every morning myself, I thought I would just make it easier for my writers to stay informed.
Introducing, the Screenwriters Almanac.
It’s a bit of a play on the wonderful Garrison Keillor series, The Writer’s Almanac (and if you don’t know what that is, you really should - you can find more info on it here), however I won’t even begin to try to be nearly as eloquent. The Screenwriter’s Almanac will be a weekly recap of industry news, information of which I feel screenwriters should be aware, updates on my picks for which contests you could consider applying to, as well as opportunities for screenwriters like ISA writing gigs and more.
Let’s dive in. The Screenwriter’s Almanac will only be available to paid subscribers. For $9/month, you will get more than just this newsletter post. You’ll also receive weekly writing prompts, and assignments and exercises to apply to your writing. I would be most grateful if you upgraded your subscription, and I will promise to deliver the best content to you every week.
The past week in screenwriting and entertainment was an interesting one. With everything that is happening in the Hollywood industry, it’s essential that writers stay up to date on what’s going. After a while, you will start to notice business trends, and if we can stay on top of those trends, the more chances and opportunities will come our way. This is also excellent fodder for discussion and conversation, so feel free to comment and create a lively chat about all the happenings.
Let’s get to it.
