OK. I understand your overall point. I cannot get past the overreaching style of this version of Moulin Rouge. And the selected scene is a perfect exemplar of why that is the case. The disconnect between the two characters is more humorous than inspiring or engaging. It recalls the same idea, played for humor in BEING THERE, the bedroom scene between Shirley McLain and Peter Sellers. A vastly better conceived disparity of lovers in a love scene.
